Very good deal for young persons holiday Options

Hi all.

I have just booked my 14 yr old on one of these holidays with his friend from school-

It is a really good deal as the government are giving concessions plus there is an extra £30 off for booking early.

with 20 pick up points around the country it is a really good deal.

How much is Camp?


Thanks to funding from the Department for Children, Schools and Families, places on camp are subsidised for young people living in England, meaning you get great value for money! Early Bird Prices for 2010 are below:

£269* (normally £299*) - The higher concession price is available to all.

£129* (normally £159*) - The middle concession price is available to participants from families who are eligible to receive Child Tax Credit.

£49* (normally £79*) - The lower concession price is available to participants from families who are eligible to receive Income Support, Working Families Tax Credit or free school meals.

The price of a place on camp for a Looked After child is the higher price. This is because all Looked After Children have access to a range of alternative funding streams, which can be used to pay for a place on summer camp.

There will be a limited number of places for those who've been on a DI4R camp before, so if you would like to go again, you should apply now to avoid disappointment.

Wish I was young and fit again ... I'd be there too !

I think the prices are really good. Much better than those over-priced school holidays where you pay for the teachers to go (me ... cynical ?!)

Michael and his friend will have a wonderful time.

Just to say the Do It 4 Real camps are really brilliant and excellent value for money.

My daughter Abby has worked, for the last two summers, on the Performing Arts Camp at Ravenstor in Buxton, a beautiful part of the Peak District. The days are filled with activities and supervision is excellent. At Abby's camp one of the five days was a full day excursion to Alton Towers included in the price! Whilst Performing Arts isn't everyone's bag to give you some idea:-

Sunday pm arrive and meet team leaders and room mates. Outdoor games, safety check and rules presentation.
Monday Festival of the Arts, variety of workshops in acting, singing, drama, pantomime throughout the day. Evening group games.
Tuesday Ravenstor's Got Talent, workshops during the day and competition in the evening
Wednesday Musicals workshops during the day and performances in the evening
Thursday Alton Towers during the day Disco and Awards presentation in the evening
Friday Time to pack and go home!

All leaders are fully trained and each carries a paediatric first aid certificate.

Michael is off to Calshott for their watersports week.

he is VERY excited! He loves sport- very outdoorsy and has had a lot of experience with things but has not tried windsurfing etc.

both him and his friend are a bit on the vulnerable side, can be easily lead into mischief and so should be able to keep eachother steady.

I have let them know that he has some special emotional needs- mainly around FOOD. He gets worried that there wont be enough. that is hard wired in there from long ago- poor lad. Bless!

Apparently Calshott, Hampshire is a really good camp and very popular so Michael should have a fab time!

Quite a lot of the children who go do have special needs of one sort or another (I think the cost of the holiday makes it very do-able for families and many use it as a break for the parents/carers as much as the kids!). Each camp is managed by a Head Team Leader and they are responsible for ensuring the needs of all children are met. Before camp you will have an opportunity to fill in a form detailing all Michael's needs, emotional, psychological, physical etc. Details are held in the office on camp and any problems that can't be dealt with they will phone you to discuss. Most Head Team Leaders are qualified teachers so have experience of working with a variety of children. All team leaders receive some training about special needs requirements.

The Youth Hostels, although a bit basic, are adequate and usually in terrific surroundings, grounds and scenery (although I guess kids don't notice these bits!!) Always plenty of food and well cooked, nobody goes hungry!

It's great that Michael is going with a friend as they will be good support for one another. I'm sure they will have a lovely time ThumpUp .
